Grounds Work Day

Happy new year and welcome one and all to the Spring Term at Kildare Steiner School.

On Saturday the 1st of February it is St. Brigid’s Day. So, from 10am – 1pm that day, the whole school community is invited to join together for a grounds improvement workday. Following this at 1pm there will be a St. Brigid’s Day celebration around the bushcraft fire. The focus for our work will be developing the new green woodworking area in and around the yurt. All are welcome and delicious soup and damper bread cooked on the fire will be available at the end of the mornings work leading into the festival part of the day. (please bring your own mug for soup). This will be relaxed, social and enjoyable event for the whole family so come along to help build our community, experience and participate in the celebrations and to make our school a more beautiful place.

The main tasks are:

  1. Raking the woodchips over the path towards the yurt. (rakes)
  2. Removing the brambles etc. to the side of the yurt to make a level clearing. (shears, strimmers, mower)
  3. Laying a rough, reclaimed wood floor in the yurt. (power drills/saws, planks e.g pallets, fixings, ext lead)
  4. Erecting and tensioning the canopy over the work area.

If people wish to come along to assist with other grounds maintenance tasks there is much to be done (e.g fence around the car-park) so please attend even if you feel unsure about your contribution. This event falls a week before our school open day so all support to get the school looking nice will be much appreciated.

Likewise, if you have particular skills and tools or materials suited to the tasks listed please bring them along.

I look forward to seeing you all there, thanks in advance, Rob.
